Female Wizard Hero (custom sculpt)

I've always wished for a female wizard to join my party of heroes. One project of mine was to completely re-write the Wizards of Morcar expansion turning it into my own Wizard Quest Pack (since the original pack was never released) and featuring a female hero as it happened with the released Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs. This project was then shelved (but not abandoned) as the real drafts for the two unreleased Wizard Quest Pack and Dwarf Quest Pack came to light recently thanks to one of the original designers who shared them with LucaPaschi (which is one of the greatest HeroQuest collectors I know) and Luca involved me with the process of "restoring" them.

So, let's go back in topic! This miniature was originally inspired by a drawing from Luis Octavio NB - link here but modified a lot of times during the sculpting process.
Then I was sitting together with my friend Valentina Conte aka Valevidart and she started to sculpt the miniature, at first following the sketch, but then we tried to include elements to recall the male wizard too. The intent was to have a mini which could immediately remind to the official HeroQuest wizard and looking as a model coming from the 90's. I have to say I am not easy on liking something so this mini was subjected to several revisions and the whole process was quite long but in the end I am very satisfied with the achieved result.
Instead of using a solid base, I preferred the miniature to feature a slotta base, removable, so it could be used both as a HeroQuest mini and as a Warhammer mini. Valentina sculpted a classic lipped, rectangular, HeroQuest base which is removable and the slotta tab under the wizard's feet allows the miniature to be mounted on its original base or over any standard base (squared or rounded).

Once the 3D model was finally ready, it was sent for the cast using professional resin and the firsts prototypes I received were gifted to different painters around the world who agreed to use their skills and lay their brushes over her. I also provided them a set of color schemes I had fun creating in Photoshop but also let them free to paint their minis according to their tastes.
Let me share with you some of the painted miniatures and give credits to the artists who painted them!
It is possible while you are reading this post, someone else is still painting another one (apologize if I forgot to mention someone, there are others still painting this figure while I am writing this post).

So, the first one to send me pictures of his work was Gavswine, from UK. I remember he did an excellent job with the two original female heroes from Barbarian and Elf Quest Packs. He chosed to paint the female wizard's dress in green and the cloak in red. Here is a group pic of his heroes together, he told me he's now wishing for a proper female Dwarf to be available. Who knows, sometimes wishes come true...

Capuleius (Giacomo Balzarotti) from the Italian HeroQuest forum also opted for a green dress but with a blue cloak on which he added a lovely decoration representing sun and moon together. All of his wizard figures are always painted with red shoes, as some kind of signature. He also took a picture of the female wizard in a lovely diorama, together with other HeroQuest miniatures. I have to say I also love his male Wizard's suit as well but all of his models are greatly painted and always featuring uncommon color schemes. Have a look at the stylish trousers of his zombie!

Goblingreenery from Norway opted for a very light blue dress with a blue cloak. Please take the time to have a look at his page, his male heroes are also stunning and with a lot of details on their faces.
I love the skin of his Barbarian in particular!

Miguel, aka Rush the Wash from Spain was so kind to even post a video on his YouTube channel, explaining the bizarre technique he used to paint a starry cloak. So interesting! Enjoy the video but I also recommend to visit his YouTube channel and subscribe, it's full of interesting tutorials featuring HeroQuest, Space Crusade and Warhammer.

Also Ed_the_8th from United Kingdom opted for a green dress. seems green is a favourite colour for this miniature. Ed has an amazing fully painted HeroQuest set and this new heroine was a nice addition to his party of heroes.

W00king_Miniatures (Jean-Paul Bordier) from France posted some beautiful pictures of his wizard in a yellow/blue dress and with a purple cloak to recall the male wizard outfit from the box art. Lovely make up on her face. I love his paintjob. Her face is definitely one of my favourites.

Maxi Costales in Spain received two pieces of this miniature; he wanted one of them looking like a good sorceress and the other one like some evil mage.
I love the style and the tiny freehand skulls on the robe. I recommend a look at his page on Instagram  or his blog EnTierraDeNadie40K for more amazing stuff.

i__love__orange from Germany usually prefers to use clean bases for his models. I guess the slotta base made things much easier for him to glue the model on the new base. Here is his couple of wizards, male and female. Same colors for both of them but inverting their order. Great job as always.
Don't forget to visit his IG page for more amazing painted miniatures.

10ball_lee from UK went with a red dress and a dark blue cloak. He added a zombie face on top of the wizard's staff and "bite" the base to match the style of other minis he has painted. Remarkable woodwork on the staff and definetely a dark look, perfect for a Necromancer character. Have a look at his page for more awesome modded models, you'll find some very interesting Chaos Warrior there!

Chaos_Thug from Spain also preferred to paint his sorceress in a yellow/blue outfit. The cloak features a nice decoration on the rear. In the second picture you can see the wizard facing some baddies, including a Chaos Sorcerer that loks like Skeletor from MOTU. Have a look at his page on IG, you'll find lot of other HQ figures beautifully painted.
